Labour Day. YADILOH SDRAWKCAB EHT.
This month, Canadians are celebrating an important holiday…Labour Day. It is also commonly known as, the backwards holiday! While it is called Labour Day, many people find themselves relaxing on this day. This holiday is special to me because it allows us to honor and recognize the contributions hard working citizens put in every day to advance and grow our country.So let’s take a day to relax and sleep in while reflecting on all the achievements and rich history of our country. Labour Day came about because workers felt they were spending too many days and hours on the job.
In 1872, a labour demonstration held in Toronto became monumental and marked the enactment of the Trade Union Act confirming the legality of forming unions. This was Canada’s first significant demonstration for workers’ rights. The demonstration hoped to release 24 leaders who were imprisoned for going on strike for a nine-hour work day.
A little over a decade later, in 1889 the Royal Commission on the Relations of Labour and Capital in Canada recommended recognition of Labour Day as an official holiday. Finally in 1894, Labour Day became a statutory holiday.
Today, Canadians all across the country celebrate through many historical traditions such as parades, picnics, and fireworks. Hard working parents take the day off and spend time with their children before summer officially ends.
Many politicians and business owners were in favor of giving workers more time off because workers were then able to spend their earnings on traveling, entertainment or dining out. It also served a dual purpose of providing hard working individuals with rest and building a social life outside of the workplace.
To celebrate the month of September and the history behind Labor Day, I will be laboring, but for a very special reason. My team and I are dedicated to helping you and those you know buy or sell the place they call home. In fact, it is a race to help as many as possible so we can GIVE more away.

Through our Go Serve Big mission, we are on a mission to raise $15,000 for BC Children’s Hospital by donating a portion of our income from home sales to them. BC Children’s Hospital does a tremendous job of helping kids fight and survive debilitating diseases. They offer a wide range of life-saving therapies including helping children with respiratory issues, cancer and blood disorders, cardiology and heart function services, cleft palate and craniofacial disorders and more.
Their work and commitment to quality care and research is supported by donations that help keep expenses to a minimum for patients and their families.
