Freedom From and Freedom To!Happy FREEDOM month! As you know July is our nation's birthday month. If you are like me, you celebrate it daily. You are undoubtedly familiar with how it all started:
On July 1 1867, the ringing of the bells at the Cathedral Church of St. James in Toronto celebrated confederation.
The enactment of the Constitution Act in 1867
" It shall be lawful for the Queen, by and with the Advice of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, to declare by Proclamation that, on and after a Day therein appointed, not being more than Six Months after the passing of this Act, the Provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick shall form and be One Dominion under the Name of Canada; and on and after that Day those Three Provinces shall form and be One Dominion under that Name accordingly.”
This, of course. is the celebration of Canada’s birthday.
Families across the country gathered on July 1 to celebrate Canada day. Before the pandemic, our communities would gather and celebrate through parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, maritime shows, music, and fireworks. This year, I loved watching small fireworks with my family and reminiscing on the opportunities we have in this country.
Winston Churchill once said, “There are no limits to the majestic future which lies before the mighty expanse of Canada with its virile aspiring cultured and generous hearted people.”
Beautiful famous words. Those words really come to life for us when you consider the communities and different people that work hard to pave their own future and create a quality life for their family. This rings true in owning real estate, a safe place to call home.
Which leads me to the next constitution documents, Executive Power and Legislative Power.
The documents continue to outline the privileges, immunities, and powers to be held, enjoyed, and exercised by the Senate and House of Commons as defined by the Act of the Parliament of Canada.
When I reflect on it, I see one goal our nation’s leaders had was to ensure all citizens are able to lead and create a fair quality life for themselves and their families.
